Bridge Estate Vineyard
Bridge Estate is relatively unique, in being one of the few single site Bordeaux vineyards in New Zealand.
Located at Matawhero, Gisborne, the Bridge Estate was planted in 1985 in the four classic Bordeaux varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
In 2009 the fifth Bordeaux variety, Semillon was planted to produce a white wine, but stay within the Bordeaux prescription.
At 6 acres (2.5 hectares) the vineyard and the old vines continue to flourish, producing a high quality Bordeaux blend under the Bridge Estate label, as well as Semillon and Rose under the Poverty Bay label.
