Maori Point is named for Maori goldminers who panned for gold in the 1860’s and before that it was a stopping place on the Greenstone trail between Otakau and Haast. The fast-draining glacial gravels on the bank of the Clutha river force vines to send deep roots to find moisture, while mulching with fragrant herbs and flowers gives them balanced nutrients.
