How can we look after our employees and workmates?

The Mental Health Foundation has put together this very useful guide:

A guide for workplace leaders on wellbeing at work during Covid-19

In relation to going back after lockdown they also recommend the following:

  • Don’t crack the whip and turn up the dials the moment people are back. Pace things.
  • Be patient and This is very important as many people are still going through unusual circumstances and a rollercoaster of emotions.
  • Don’t let people feel guilty or like they’ve failed if they need to take time off or hand over a project as they’re still overwhelmed.
  • Be supportive.
  • Be considerate.
  • Be vigilant. Is someone’s behaviour not their usual?
  • Be inclusive. People feel secure and thrive when they have a sense of belonging.
  • Have eachother’s backs
  • Think about a little gift, a flower, a kind note when you notice someone is going through a hard time. Small gestures can go a long way.
  • Stay connected.
  • Communication is key.
  • Remember people recover at different speeds.
