#sauvblanc day

International Sauvignon Blanc Day

Pure, iconic and vibrant, New Zealand has set the standard for New World Sauvignon Blanc. With a distinct, lush style and explosive flavours, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is recognised globally as a true category of its own.

Marlborough has mapped its place internationally as the ‘it’ location for New World Sauvignon Blanc, however, New Zealand offers over 11 regions and 50,000 acres (21,400ha) planted of this exciting variety.

This International #sauvblanc day we celebrate #nzwine and the iconic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that lets the world know that we Kiwis always punch well above our weight.

Why is this important?

Well, New Zealand makes less than 1% of the entire world’s wine production, but, of that, Sauvignon Blanc consists of 86% of our wine exports, which is equivalent to over 166 million bottles of this beautiful wine every year. It’s made on a land mass, North and South Island combined, that is around the size of Oregon, with a national population of 4.5 million - that is about half of New York City or London. There are more sheep than people in New Zealand, it is true!

While France has the pedigree, and California the size, New Zealand has the personality that makes this special grape variety shine. Unique, exuberant and intense, this explosive varietal awoke the world to New Zealand wine.

The explosive variety that awoke the world to New Zealand wine.

The flavours of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc have dazzled wine critics throughout the world, setting the international benchmark for the style.

New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc assails the senses with red capsicum (bell pepper) and gooseberry characters, lush tropical fruit overtones, fresh cut grass, tomato stalks, and grapefruit or lime.
