"Providing and promoting a technological basis for the New Zealand grape and wine industry to remain internationally competitive as the leading producer of premium quality wines.”
New Zealand Winegrowers aims to build a knowledge platform that protects the industry’s ability to produce exceptional wines and supports innovation.
The research strategy focuses on five main areas:
- Pests and diseases.
- Reducing costs, increasing profitability.
- Sustainability and organics.
- Quality wine styles for existing and developing markets.
- Technology transfer.
Research activities are funded using a portion of the levies on grape and wine production collected from the whole of the New Zealand wine industry.
Oversight of the Research Programme is provided by New Zealand Winegrowers Research Committee , which includes industry members with direct experience in grapegrowing, winemaking and business.
New Zealand Winegrowers also ensures that knowledge is shared through innovative tools, techniques and best-practice guidelines delivered to industry.
