Pete and Alana, the team behind this amazing initiative, returned from an eye-opening trip to India appalled at the modern-day slavery on display. An idea formed to make surplus grapes from Pete’s parents’ vineyard, Terrace Edge, into wine with all profits going towards helping survivors of trafficking via the Hagar Organisation. Through tremendous support from others within the wine industry, including the winemakers at Greystonewho make the wines at heavily reduced costs, they launched27seconds. The name of the label came about because every 27 seconds, somewhere in the world, a person is sold or trafficked into slavery. Pete says “We wanted a name that tells the story. When anyone asks why it is called 27 Seconds, with one sentence we can make them understand.”
