As working women we are often juggling many things and trying to keep many people happy - both at work and at home. It's really important to look after our own health too - physical and mental - so we operate well and enjoy what we're doing.
Added into the mix women also contend with various life stages - periods, pregnancy and menopause. These topics have often been a bit taboo and not widely talked about in public. However, this is changing for the better. The more we understand what's happening to our bodies during these stages and the more both men and women talk about them, the easier it is to work through any challenges and ensure everyone feels supported. This ultimately supports talented women to continue working and progressing their careers.
We hope this new page helps support your physical and mental health at all stages. We shall continue adding information.
Menopause
World Menopause Day - 18 October
World Menopause Day on 18 October helps further destigmatize this normal stage in life and Gender at Work have prepared a toolkit, including videos, posters, fact sheet and a fun quiz which you can download here.
Talking about the menopause has always been a bit of a taboo topic, but thankfully it is becoming a more normalised conversation, enabling women at this stage of their lives to speak more openly if they’re going through any challenges and for workplaces to become more aware and supportive. Not only does this help individuals, but ensures talented women of all ages and stages remain in the workforce.
Another resource is the webinar Hot Flushes, Cool Vintages - Navigating menopause at work, which we ran as part of our Women in Wine Development Series. Here, Dr Anju Basu gave a fantastic explanation on what is actually happening inside the body during this time – some invaluable insights.
