Every great story has a twist. When looking for New Zealand’s champion Sauvignon Blanc most people head to the top of the South Island, yet only those who venture to Nelson will find it.

The Nelson region is renowned for record sunshine, sandy beaches and national parks. It is also home to award-winning wines.

The New Zealand Wine of the Year™ 2019 awards have been judged and Seifried Estate Sauvignon Blanc Nelson 2019 has won the Label and Litho Ltd Champion Open White Wine, Champion Sauvignon Blanc and Best Wine - Nelson.

These latest accolades from the New Zealand Wine Awards add to the medal tally for Seifried Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2019.

It was also awarded Gold at the Austrian Wine Challenge in Vienna (the largest officially recognised wine competition in the world), Gold at MUNDIS VINI in Germany and Gold at the New Zealand International Wine Show, all earlier this year.

Seifried Estate was established by Austrian born Hermann Seifried and his Kiwi wife Agnes when they planted their first vineyard in the Moutere Valley in 1973.

2016 marked 40 years since the family's first grape harvest.

From very small and modest beginnings when Hermann and Agnes grafted the vines late into the night, to today when all three Seifried children have returned home to play their part in growing the family business.

Seifried Estate is a company devoted to sustainable winegrowing and producing the very best Nelson has to offer.

With over 320 hectares of sustainably accredited Estate owned vineyards and exports to over 25 countries around the globe, there is indeed reason to celebrate.

Everyone at Seifried is justifiably proud. “This wine is a reflection of a tonne of hard work, an amazing season in Nelson, and a great team who nurse the grapes through their time in the vineyard, then hand over pristine fruit to the winemaking crew to work their magic,” says Anna Seifried.

Seifried Estate says that although it is a small grape-growing region, Nelson’s climate and talent for crafting world-class wine is clear.

“We’re so proud of the recognition for our team’s commitment and hard work to making great wines. We’re also very proud of Nelson/Tasman and our fellow growers and producers, many who, like us, started from humble beginnings.

Combining the famous creative artisan spirit with the soil and climate in this special place at the centre of New Zealand, Nelson is a region known for some of the finest food and beverage products in the world. We’re incredibly proud to call this place home.” - Seifried Estate Sales and Marketing Manager, Anna Seifried.

“These trophies from the New Zealand Wine of the Year Awards top off an incredible season for us. They represent top honours for wine in this country, and to be recognised for both our region and our Sauvignon Blanc is a huge acknowledgement for all of us”.
