The great news and people that are part of the New Zealand wine industry.
Bill and Ross Spence came from generations of winemakers. Wine was part of their early life, and they founded Matua in 1974 with a vision to revolutionise the New Zealand wine industry.
Wrights Vineyard and Winery is based in Gisborne and produces certified organic, biodynamic wines. The husband-and-wife team of Geoff and Nicola Wright are passionate about creating wines in an ethical and environmentally friendly way.
If Sherwyn Veldhuizen didn't love her day job so much, the North Canterbury winegrower might spend all of her time farming fungi.
Born in England and raised in Australia, Kevin Judd attended Roseworthy Agricultural College in Adelaide, earning a degree in oenology. After working in New Zealand for three years, in 1984 he met David Hohnen, who wanted Kevin to be his winemaker for a new company being established. That company, was Cloudy Bay, and the rest they say, is history.
Ivan Sutherland is an Olympic medallist and also one of the early pioneers of the Marlborough wine region. He and his wife Margaret purchased their vineyard in the late 1970s as Sauvignon Blanc was being discovered.
“We have an expression that unless you have dirt under your fingernails, you’ll never know how to grow a vine,” says James Millton from his eponymous Gisborne vineyard.
Christine and Dave Macdonald admit it was a romantic whim to name Bladen for their children Blair and Deni.
There was never any pressure nor expectation the Sutherland children would join parents Ivan and Margaret in Dog Point Vineyards.
