Predictions below for 2026 are based on data collected from NZW members in the 2025 Biosecurity Vineyard Register.
- The 2026 total planted area is 44,229 ha; a <1% increase from the preceding year.
- The 2026 total producing area is 43,299 ha; a 1.8% increase from the preceding year.
- There are a total of 2019 active vineyards recorded by the Register, with an average planted area of 22 ha.
- Marlborough remains the largest planted area in New Zealand at 32,191 ha; 73% of the total planted area.
- At 82%, Sauvignon Blanc is the most planted white variety.
- At 75%, Pinot Noir is the most planted red variety.
